Week 38 – 259/365

In most countries, learning languages other than your natural tongue is seen as scholarly and useful for the future. In conventions, knowing Japanese is more cool than useful. While walking around, I saw a girl dressed up as an anime character speak to a Japanese-American press photographer in Japanese just because she could, not because she needed to. During a dance contest, one of the shyer girls bowed to the audience to cries of “kawaii!! (cute!!)” before dancing, then “desu! desu! desu!” (a word just said to sound cute; the literal meaning being “It’s! It’s! It’s!”) as she finished then went back to her place against the wall.
